New cooperation agreement with land-owner
Kärnfull Next (KNXT) moves forward with Valdemarsvik as a potential new nuclear power municipality and is planning an SMR park with 4–6 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Målma. The decision is based on a a new cooperation agreement with land-owner Latona Group, securing permanent land rights for the project.
"This is a crucial step in our strategy to establish new nuclear power in southern Sweden. Our collaboration with Latona provides the stability needed to proceed with topics such as permitting and detailed project planning," says John Ahlberg, Chief Strategy Officer at Kärnfull Next.
The Valdemarsvik project will now advance in close dialogue with the municipality, regional stakeholders, and strategic partners, including global construction giant Samsung C&T. The goal is to ensure the efficient development of the SMR park, covering technical, economic, societal and regulatory aspects.
"Our vision is to combine advanced nuclear technology with sustainable energy supply and local engagement. By maintaining an open and transparent dialogue with all stakeholders, we create the foundation for a robust and future-proof energy project," Ahlberg continues.
"We are pleased to have found such a strong partner in Kärnfull Next to take this project forward," comments Gustav Carp, owner of Latona Group.
The SMR park in Målma is part of Kärnfull Next’s broader strategy to contribute to Sweden’s energy security through new, scalable, and stable fossil-free electricity production within the company’s Re:Firm South nuclear energy program.
Project planning is now intensifying, and further updates on the progress will be announced in due course.
